Modern architecture prioritizing form and function
A modern home where considered design elevates everyday living.

Challenge
Solution
The design resolution employs a clear structural grid and a refined material palette to define the home's public and private zones, creating a dwelling that feels both grounded and expansive.
The architectural response centers on the juxtaposition of off-shutter concrete headers with face-brick walls, creating a durable envelope that emphasizes permanence. Deep concrete overhangs were introduced to provide essential passive solar control while visually reinforcing the horizontal linearity of the façade. Internally, the floor plan utilizes an open layout to maximize natural light and connectivity, ensuring a seamless transition between the interior comfort and the raw exterior context.
Results
The completed design stands as a cohesive architectural statement, successfully translating conceptual rigor into a tangible, high-performance living environment that anchors itself firmly within the site.
The result is a residence that commands presence through its grounded materiality while offering a serene private retreat. By adhering to the honest expression of concrete and brick, House Potgieter achieves a timeless aesthetic that will age gracefully with the landscape. The final form validates the bold horizontal lines and spatial planning, delivering a sophisticated home where light, texture, and geometry converge to elevate the suburban context.
